Weight Loss: Daily scale check
According to Men's Health magazine one of their weight-loss strategies
states that it is important to weight yourself on a daily basis. Do
you believe this to be healthy or unhealthy? I can see it working two
ways.
eating plan or a workout regimen then the scale may discourage you
because you are not seeing the results. Essentially it can derail your
attempt completely. 2) It will help motivate you or at the very least alert you if you are
heading in the wrong direction allowing you to become proactive. In any circumstance feedback is very important and stepping on a scale
is exactly that. Feedback. It lets you know how you are doing in terms
of your weight loss. Without measuring your results then what is the
point. As we progress we need to (we should) document the steps we are
taking and document the results in order to keep the momentum going.
By comparing previous weeks to let's say this week we can determine if
the decisions we made worked in our favor. If not then we can revert
back to a previous week that we know had better results. Changing the way we eat alone can have a significant impact on our
weight loss. No more reaching for a bag of chips instead go for the
raw baby carrots (without the dip is better of course). Instead of
smearing mayonnaise on your sandwich smearing on some avocado. Instead
of soda have some water or juice. Small changes like these make a big
difference. One thing I did learn is that in some cases your body may
suggest that you are hungry when in fact you're just thirsty. In times
like these drink a full (8oz) cup of water which will curb your hunger
pains. Water is your friend so drink plenty of it. I am really not sure what the recommended intake for water consumption
is because I have heard many varying levels. From 64 oz (half gallon)
which is the 8x8 rule, 128 oz (1 gallon) to your body weight in
ounces. So if you are 200 lbs then drink 200 ounces. The important
thing is to just drink water. Don't over do it and guzzle a gallon in
one sitting. Especially if it hasn't been a practice of yours because
the results can be very negative. Take it slow, work yourself up
gradually until you reach a level you are comfortable with and stick
with it. Keep in mind the more water you drink the more visits to that bathroom
you will take. Not to mention the first morning bathroom visit will
take longer than usual. Also with more water intake you will notice a
change in your urine color: either colorless or slightly yellow. Which
can indicate that you are drinking adequate amounts of water.
